I’ll be honest, I’m not the gal who goes to the nail salon unless I need someone to give my feet a good polish (pun intended). And by need I mean a twice-a-year spring cleaning. While time and money were my original primary concerns, I’ve begun to think more about the health risks. Dirty tubs and re-used tools are part of it, but truthfully I think more about the inhalation of the toxic chemicals that fill the air inside a salon, not to mention the toxicity of the products which are being applied to and absorbed by my skin and nails. Call me a worrywart. Tell me I can bring in my own polish. But in a world where there are so many situations we have no control over, when it comes to my nails, I choose control. Plus, there are so many great tutorials on YouTube for at-home mani-pedis, it’s worth the learning curve to stay a bit safer in my beauty routine.

Linked below are a ton of colors of côte and sundays, two of my favorite brands of safe nail polish. They’re non-toxic, cruelty-free, vegan, and two of the only 10-free brands. That means it’s free of ten of the most toxic chemicals often found in drugstore and salon polishes: dibutyl phthalate, TPHP, toluene, xylene, ethyl tosylamide, camphor, formaldehyde, formaldehyde resin, parabens, and tert-butyl hydroperoxide. (For a quick run-down on why each of these is just so bad, click here! You’ll be tossing that drugstore polish in a flash.)

Psst! There’s a bonus, too: if you have Amazon Prime these safer alternatives will be at your door in two days. And côte even offers acetone-free remover in a bottle and single-use pads for safe polish changes on the go.

NY & LA friends, this is for you! côte shops can actually polish you safely in their New York and Los Angeles locations, and there are a few sundays’ studios few locations in NYC, too!

Pamper yourself. But do it well. xo
